Mass brawl at airport departure lounge as holidaymaker swings suitcase and punches thrown

A major scrap between holidaymakers at an airport departure lounge has left three people in hospital with serious injuries.

A total of 17 people have been arrested following the mass brawl which saw one man repeatedly swinging a suitcase over his head.

Other travellers fled in fear in a bid to avoid the punches and kicks that were being thrown by the violent holidaymakers.

The Mirror reports the incident, which took place at Luton Airport on Friday morning, came to a head outside of Aelia-Dutyfree as the culrits fought past the shuttered Dixons and Victoria's Secret stores.

It is unclear what caused the fracas, which appeared to play out between a large group and a few rival individuals at 8am.

At least a dozen men can be seen in the clip shared on Twitter, with blood left on the floor of the post-security 'airside' zone at the terminal, which is popular with budget airlines Wizz Air and easyJet.

Onlookers can be heard screaming and clapping at the men, with one man audibly imploring them to 'stop'.

In total four people were hurt, three seriously, and 17 were arrested.

An airport spokesman said: “We are shocked and saddened by this isolated incident. We take a zero tolerance approach to violence and continue to assist the police with their enquiries. We would like to sincerely apologise to any passengers affected.”

Bedfordshire Police are investigating the brawl.

A spokesman said: "Police were made aware of a violent disorder at London Luton Airport on Friday (14 May) at 8am.

"Four people were injured, and three were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Subsequently, 17 people were arrested and were taken to police custody for questioning.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or report online via , quoting reference 52 of 14 May."
