Masonic lodge provides food for thought for West Lothian Dinner lady

The West Lothian Sunday Dinner Lady recently received over £300 worth of food from the St John Mid Calder Masonic Lodge.

The men heard about the service that provides families living in poverty with a Sunday dinner and got in touch to ask how they could help.

Their sizeable food donation included vegetables and dried and tinned foods to help with the dinner bags, and they also handed over a cheque for £200.

Since The Courier first reported on the Sunday Dinner Lady, Ann Wilson, in January her service has continued to grow as demand has increased across the county.

In the month of June they delivered 176 Sunday dinner bags, enough to feed over 600 people, to areas like Addiewell, Bathgate, Blackburn, Boghall, Bridgend, Broxburn, Dedridge, Fauldhouse, Howden, Whitburn and Winchburgh.

Livingston Football Club have also been a big help and have allowed Ann and her team to use the stadium to make up their packages ahead of delivery.

Added to that, Fiona and James from Morrisons in Carmondean donate and deliver dried goods every week.

But the service still relies upon the generosity of the public to fund their deliveries and they are appealing for help.
