Mason Rudolph left out in Steelers quarterback competition

The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up minicamp on Thursday and are now off to train on their own for the next six weeks until training camp begins. According to rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett, he is planning to head to Florida during the break and work with fellow Steelers signal-caller Mitch Trubisky prior to heading to Latrobe for training camp.

What Pickett didn’t mention was if fellow quarterback Mason Rudolph would be attending. I think at this point it is safe to assume Rudolph will be training on his own.

It really feels like it is a foregone conclusion that Rudolph is working for his next job and not this job. The media has completely ignored his participation at minicamp and all conversation about the starting job centers on Pickett and Trubisky.

Rudolph has the most experience in the Steelers offense but this information is probably to his detriment. The Steelers coaches know what they have in Rudolph and despite giving him a contract extension, know it isn’t enough for him to be the future of the franchise.
