Mason Rudolph injury puts spotlight on Devlin Hodges and Paxton Lynch

It is good to know that after suffering a concussion on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph is home and recovering. Nevertheless, it is highly unlikely Rudolph plays next week as the Steelers travel out west to take on the Los Angeles Chargers.

So who will play quarterback?

Devlin Hodges came in and played pretty well in place of Rudolph all things considered. Hodges is a rookie who went undrafted but impressed enough to stick around through the preseason and was brought back when the Steelers traded Joshua Dobbs.

But on the practice squad is veteran Paxton Lynch. Lynch was in the league in 2016 and 2017 with the Denver Broncs after Denver drafted him in the first round. Lynch was great in college but has never lived up to his draft hype.

However, don’t be shocked if the Steelers promote Lynch to the 53-man roster and it becomes an open competition between the two of them to win the starting job.

Pittsburgh might even sign another veteran free agent just to be sure they have done their due diligence before Pittsburgh takes on the Chargers.

Who should start for the Steelers next week?
