Manchester United are set to lodge a third bid for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount but could walk away from the negotiations table, according to BBC Sport.
The Red Devils stole a march on Liverpool for the signature of the England international despite Jurgen Klopp's side laying the early framework over a move away from Stamford Bridge. Interest was sparked after contract talks with the Londoners went cold following the World Cup in Qatar.
Erik ten Hag has reportedly made the Cobham academy graduate one of his main targets this summer and reports suggest already that two of the Old Trafford side's approaches have been turned down. It has been claimed that the two valuations are far apart as Chelsea eye a fee in the region of around £70m.
Mount has one year remaining on his current deal in West London and it has been widely considered that he will be swapping the capital for the North West this summer.

According to Simon Stone of the BBC, United will make a third bid, expected to be around £55m but will walk away if they see another rejected approach.
In a tweet, he said: "Third @ManUtd bid for Mason Mount, around £55m, expected. Club set to walk away from the deal if Chelsea don't accept. With a year left, United do not believe a £70m valuation is realistic."
The 24-year-old became a player of interest to Liverpool after they turned their attention away from England starlet Jude Bellingham. There were reports suggesting that Borussia Dortmund were holding out for a fee north of £100m for the 19-year-old.
After consideration, the Reds opted to divert their attention to multiple additions as opposed to a mega-money signing which would've broken their own transfer record and the British record. This summer, Alexis Mac Allister has already been welcomed through the doors at the AXA Training Centre after penning a long-term deal with the Reds.
Khephren Thuram is among the other targets as he plots success at the European Championships with France's under-21s. Celta Vigo and Spain midfielder Gabri Veiga is also featuring in the tournament and among those considered on the shortlist.
Meanwhile, Holland's Ryan Gravenberch, who played in their goalless group opener with Belgium, has faced fierce speculation over a move to Liverpool.
