The ankle injury Mason Mount suffered on Tuesday night against Valencia in the Champions League is not as bad as first feared, according to reports.
The 20-year-old was forced off the pitch early in the first half following a challenge from former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin, and appeared in a lot of pain as he was substituted.
However, according to The Athletic, the injury is not as bad as first feared, and Mount could be back sooner than anticipated - though he is unlikely to feature .
Frank Lampard could give no update following the game due to the swelling around the ankle, meaning a scan would have to take place at a later time.
The midfielder underwent an X-ray on Wednesday morning that found no ligament damage in his right ankle, bringing some much-needed positive news on the injury front for the Chelsea boss.
Mount has apparently already begun his rehabilitation with a session of hydrotherapy at Chelsea's Cobham training ground, and is scheduled to undergo another precautionary scan later this week.
A return to action against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon is said to be highly unlikely for the England international, but it is hoped that he will be back training soon.
