Mason Mount's three-word message to Liverpool and Real Madrid after Chelsea book semi-final spot

Mason Mount had a simple message after helping Chelsea secure their first Champions League semi-final spot since 2014.

The Blues progressed to the penultimate stage of the competition thanks to a 2-1 aggregate win over FC Porto, losing 1-0 in the second leg on Tuesday night, a match that proved to be deceptively comfortable, despite the scoreline.

Chelsea now await Wednesday night ties to discover which team they will play between Liverpool and Real Madrid, with the latter 3-1 to the good heading into the second leg.

And the message from Mount is simple.

“We’ll take anyone," he told BT Sport. "We’re ready for the fight, we’re ready for the battle. We get to sit down and watch it, really analyse it and then the best team will go through, so we’re up for anyone.

"We’ve been working hard in training and it shows in the games. We’ve been performing at a high level, so hopefully that continues and we have massive, massive games so we need to continue that and keep playing at a high level."

Speaking about the aggregate win over Porto and the progression to the next round, Mount added: "It doesn’t get better than that. Today, the most important thing was getting through.

"We could have done better on the day, we could have played better, but the performance was probably at the back of our heads and getting through to the semi-final of the Champions League was at the forefront - and we did that tonight.

“We had a few (chances), I had a couple, but as I said before, the most important thing was defending, staying strong. We all know as a team, and us three up top - me, Kai (Havertz) and Christian (Pulisic) - we all knew we had to work our socks off the whole game, keep going, we knew what the final result was if we won.

"So we did that throughout and obviously we made some subs. The boys on the bench came on and did that also, and we were together as a team tonight."

Tuchel has enjoyed a fine start to life at Chelsea since his arrival in late January and speaking about the German head coach's impact, Mount said: "He’s had a big impact. It’s difficult to come in midway through the season, but he’s had a big impact on all of the players.

"We knew from day one what he wanted, and we’ve all implemented it in the games."

Chelsea may have booked their spot in the next round of the Champions League, but with an FA Cup final spot and a top-four finish up for grabs, the hard work continues.

"We know we have big, big games coming up, especially the next game: an FA Cup semi-final against Man City, it’s another big game," Mount added. "We’re going into each game with the confidence that we’re going to win.

"We need to keep on doing that, obviously in the league we want to finish in the top four. We’ve got a big finish to the end of the season."
