Mason Mount’s father hits back at Kai Havertz transfer claim as Chelsea could sell N'Golo Kante

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Monday, September 7.

Mount’s dad hits back at Havertz claims

Mason Mount’s father has hit back at claims that his son is ‘unhappy’ with Chelsea signing Kai Havertz.

The Blues confirmed the signing of the 21-year-old German on Friday and is going to be looking to make a name for himself at Stamford Bridge.

One of the players who Havertz could be in direct competition for a place in the side is Mount, who had a superb breakthrough year for the Blues.

Mount featured in more than 50 games for Chelsea over the course of the 2019/20 campaign, his debut season for the first team.

Kante could be sacrificed

Chelsea are willing to let N’Golo Kante leave the club this summer, with Frank Lampard keen to trim down his squad, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry.

Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, per The Express, McGarry revealed that Kante would be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge for the right price.

McGarry said: “Chelsea are willing to let N’Golo Kante, a player who has been absolutely pivotal in a league-winning season for Chelsea, but they are willing to let him go.

“Obviously, this comes with a bit of balancing the books because you don’t spend £230 million in one window without having to trim your squad.”

Maignan interest ended

Chelsea have ended their interest in Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who say the Blues have walked away from any potential deal after learning the stopper would cost up to £32m.

It seems efforts will be directed towards Rennes’ Edouard Mendy instead.
