Mason Mount's damning declaration after Chelsea's dominant win over Real Madrid

Mason Mount has hinted he wasn’t satisfied with Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid, suggesting his side should have scored five.

The Blues put in a dominant performance against the Spanish giants to secure safe passage into the Champions League final.

After drawing 1-1 in Madrid last week the tie was firmly in the balance, but at Stamford Bridge, they rarely ever looked like slipping up.

From the opening exchanges the hosts dominated proceedings and thought they had taken the lead, only to see Timo Werner’s tap-in ruled out for offside.

Minutes later, the German did have his goal nodding in from a yard following a Kai Havertz shot that hit the crossbar.

Chelsea then had chance after chance, including a glaring miss by Mount, raising tension with Real just one goal away from taking the game to extra-time.

But any doubts were eased in the closing stages when Mount fired home following a Christian Pulisic cross.

It sets up a showdown with Premier League rivals Manchester City, in the second all English final in three years.

The result marks a dramatic turnaround in fortunes since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January. And as if to emphasise that point, Mount suggested that the only negative on the night was that they didn’t score more.

“I can’t put it into words, really, at the moment,” he told BT Sport. But it was a great performance tonight, it was a tough, tough game.

“You know what they’re like, they’re going to come and they’re going to give it everything. I thought we were brilliant, we worked hard.

"We probably should have had about five. I should have had one about 20 minutes before I scored. The most important thing is that we won tonight. But it’s not over, there’s one more game left."

On his decisive goal, he added: “It was 1-0 but it didn’t really matter because if they scored, they’re back in the game and we’re going to extra-time.

“To get that one late on, you can see by the celebrations, it was a massive goal for us and it gave us breathing space in the last five minutes."
