Mason Mount pushing for first England start in Czech Republic Euro 2020 qualifier

Mason Mount is pushing to make his first senior start for England against the Czech Republic tomorrow night.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has been hugely impressed with Mount in training this week and he could be set to start ahead of his Chelsea team-mate Ross Barkley.

Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland watched Mount at Southampton on Sunday and he came on as a substitute in last month’s qualifiers with Bulgaria and Kosovo.

In-form Mount has already ousted Barkley from the Chelsea line-up and now could be set to do the same for England.

Mount has a connection with West Ham ’s England midfielder Declan Rice from youth team days at Chelsea and Southgate also looks set to start Jadon Sancho ahead of Marcus Rashford who has been nursing a groin problem.

England’s medics are monitoring Rashford’s fitness this week with Southgate likely to go with a 4-3-3 formation for the back-to-back games in Prague and Sofia as they look to clinch Euro 2020 qualification.
