Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has revealed he found out Hakim Ziyech was “world-class” during a loan spell in Holland two years ago.
Ziyech has signed for the Blues and will begin his Stamford Bridge career at the start of next season with Chelsea’s transfer ban being lifted in January.
Mount played against Ziyech, when the former Derby County loanee was at Vitesse Arnhem on a temporary deal during the 2017/18 season.
Ever since that game, Mount has been very impressed by the Moroccan international, who played twice in the Champions League group stages against Chelsea this season.
“So, two years ago, I was in Holland on loan so I knew a bit about him then and obviously [saw] how good a player he is,” Mount said at a charity FIFA tournament, as quoted by the Metro .
“So, obviously it’s another amazing, world-class player joining the club. So yeah, (I’m) buzzing to work with him, train with him and hopefully play with him.”
Ziyech announced himself fully onto the European scene last season as Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
The 27-year-old scored three times and set up the same amount in his 11 appearances in Europe’s elite competition during the last campaign.
In his last season at the Dutch giants, Ziyech has registered 13 assists in the Eredivisie as well as contributing with six goals.
