Mason Mount opens up on Chelsea's support of the Black Lives Matter campaign

Mason Mount has explained why showing solidarity for the Black Lives Matter campaign was so important for him and his Chelsea team-mates.

The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, United States, at the end of May sparked outrage across the world, with numerous demonstrations since taking place.

A number of sporting individuals and teams have also voiced their support, with Chelsea one of many Premier League clubs to show solidarity.

Chelsea posted a picture across their social media platforms last week showing their players and staff kneeling in the formation of the letter 'H', standing for humans.

Along with the photo, Mount's team-mate Cesar Azpilicueta wrote: "Enough is enough. We are all HUMANS. Together we are stronger. #BlackLivesMatter".

And Mount has now explained just why the message was so important.

"It was something we wanted to do," Mount told Chelsea's official website. "The picture we sent out speaks for itself and the message that goes with it is so powerful.

"We all need to stick together. Enough is enough and that is the message we wanted to send out.

"As footballers, we are quite fortunate to have a fairly big following on social media, so we wanted to use that platform as a way of putting our message across and show that we are all sticking together.

"Everyone in the team was fully behind the decision to take the knee and show our solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement."
