Mason Mount names the 'brilliant' Chelsea player who he has learned from this season

Mason Mount has hailed Thiago Silva as a 'brilliant' player and insists he has already learned lots from the Brazilian.

Thiago Silva joined Chelsea in the summer on a free transfer, and it's clear the 36-year-old has already made a big difference to the Blues side.

The 36-year-old has brought a calmness and balance to the Blues defence, while his impact has also been shown by being named captain on several occasions.

The centre-back does not speak fluent England yet, however Frank Lampard insists his key man is still able to communicate well with the rest of the players.

And Mount has highlighted the impact he has made on the team and himself personally.

“Yeah, we all learn stuff off each other," Mount said.

"When you have players like Kai and Timo coming in, and Thiago Silva who has been through a lot and been at the top of the game for a long time, you can learn so much experience from them by just talking to him for five minutes here and there.

"He is a brilliant player and when they come in it really helps young players coming through and gives us a lot of experience.

Chelsea take on Rennes tomorrow night looking for their sixth victory in a row after an excellent run of form.

They are currently inside the top four in the Premier League after a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at the weekend.

And Mount has praised the side's mentally to go up a new level and take another step for a Premier League challenge.

"The ruthlessness we have now to kill games off, to score goals," Mount added.

"You could see against Newcastle, it was a tough game and maybe last season we would have gone there and maybe struggled to score and keep a clean sheet.

"The evolution of our performances and the way we are playing at the moment you can tell we have become more solid in defence, as a defensive unit and as a team. Being ruthless in front of goal. We have shown that we have scored a lot of goals this season, but we are never content.

"We know what we can achieve as a group and hopefully we can keep winning games, keep being strong mentally because the season is very tough.

"There are so many games coming up so we need to go into games with the confidence we are going to win it and I think that is the difference between last season and this season so far."
