Mason Mount insists Chelsea still believe they have a big chance to win the Premier League title as they look to bounce back from a disappointing December.
Thomas Tuchel's side began the month with a one-point lead at the top of the table, but have tumbled down to third behind Manchester City and Liverpool as injuries and Covid-related absences have hurt their form. Sunday's draw at Wolves, after the Premier League had refused a request to postpone the match, means the West Londoners are six points behind the reigning champions going into the Christmas fixtures.
There is no let-up for Chelsea, who have a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford on Wednesday evening before returning to action on Boxing Day against Aston Villa - but they do know how quickly things can change in the league.
Mount has enjoyed another impressive spell in the heart of Tuchel's team and says the confidence is still there to stay in the race.
"When you are putting that pressure on yourself to win the Premier League, every game brings pressure, every point counts. We were top for a bit, we draw some games and we drop down to third. That shows that if you drop points, the race can be over very quickly," he told Sky Sports.
"The title has always been our goal. We want to be up there. More than ever this season, we feel like we have a big chance. We can definitely do it. We have the confidence. But we need to be humble and focused too. We need to keep doing the basics well."
