Mason Mount hands Frank Lampard and Chelsea a major injury boost ahead of Crystal Palace visit

Frank Lampard has delivered some huge injury news ahead of Chelsea's London derby against Crystal Palace.

Not for the first time this season the Blues head coach has some fitness concerns ahead of a game.

The latest of which is Mason Mount who was substituted in the incredible 4-4 draw with Ajax in the Champions League in midweek after taking a knock to his right ankle.

He was replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi on the hour mark at Stamford Bridge, with Lampard confirming after the game that Mount had had his ankle strapped and that they were hopeful it was "relatively minor."

And that's proven to be the case.

Speaking ahead of the clash against the Eagles, Lampard delivered the latest Chelsea injury news.

The good news is that Mount will be in the squad to face Palace.

Although, the bad news is that fellow midfielder Ross Barkley will miss out again as he struggles to shake off the knock sustained in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

“Ross has an ongoing issue so he is not in the squad tomorrow," Lampard told reporters. "It is a conversation I will have with Gareth and Ross and everyone to see how it pans out over the next ten days.

"I am not sure on that one, he won’t be in our squad.

“With Mason he is in the squad, we will give him 24 hours and make a call on that in the morning.”

Having Mount available will certainly be a boost for Lampard.

The midfielder has scored four goals in the Premier League thus far and at one stage he was only behind Tammy Abraham in the goalscoring charts at the Bridge.

Mount has played in the number ten role, on the left wing and as the left-sided midfielder throughout the campaign so far.
