Mason Mount hails Chelsea boss Frank Lampard's influence following England call-up

Mason Mount has revealed that he is taking extra training sessions with Frank Lampard as he bids to solidify his place in the Chelsea team, stating "there is no better person to learn from".

The midfielder earned his first call-up to the England national team in October last year, but did not get on the pitch for the Nations League fixtures against Spain and Croatia.

But following an impressive start to the season in Chelsea's first team, Mount is back in the squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo, and could make his England debut.

The 20-year-old spent a year on loan at Derby County under Lampard, and has scored twice in four Premier League starts this season.

As Chelsea's record goalscorer, Lampard was famed for both his long-distance shooting and timing his runs into the box to perfection, and Mount says that extra training sessions with the boss are helping him to develop.

"After training we do some finishing sometimes," he told reporters.

"I'm obviously talking to him every day, especially after the games – what I can do better, where I can make the runs and where I can get into the box.

"I'm always speaking to him and trying to learn things every day, mostly after training doing finishing.

"There is no better person to learn from than him.

"When I got called up first last year, he [Lampard] sat me down in his office and said to me I was called up.

"It was a massive, massive moment for myself. This time, he just spoke to me and said, 'You've been called up again, go into it working hard like you've been doing at Chelsea'. So I've spoken to him a little bit and taken stuff off him, as I always do.

"When I'm with him it's mostly about club football, focusing on what we're doing in the Premier League. Having one or two chats with him, he's said it's obviously such a proud moment to represent your county so go and enjoy it.

"It's such an exciting time for English football. He said just go there and enjoy playing football for England."
