Mason Mount delivers injury update ahead of Chelsea games against Atletico Madrid and Man United

Mason Mount has allayed fears that he is injured despite icing his knee after Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Saints took the lead against the run of play in the first-half as Nathan Redmond slid a beautifully weighted pass to Takumi Minamino and the Liverpool loanee cooly slotted past Edouard Mendy.

But the Blues were allowed back into the game thanks to Danny Ings' rash challenge in the box and Mount scored the resulting penalty.

The stalemate was the first goal Chelsea have conceded since Thomas Tuchel took over in late-January.

But they are still unbeaten and have picked up 14 from a possible 18 with the former Borussia Dortmund boss at the helm.

Be it Frank Lampard or Tuchel in charge, Mount has excelled under both managers and his penalty was his fifth goal of the season in all competitions, and he has contributed six assists as well.

Some Chelsea fans may have been worried after seeing the 22-year-old icing his knee at the end of the game but Mount assuaged supporters' concerns today.

He told the club's website: "It’s just a little knock. A bit of bruising but I’ll be fine. Nothing can stop me."

Chelsea will need Mount fit and firing ahead of a crucial run of fixtures coming up.

Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Manchester United, and Liverpool are the next three opponents for Tuchel’s men, and Mount described this period as a "massive" couple of weeks.

"We spoke a bit about it before the game, saying we need to go into these next three or four weeks really focused," he said.

"We have some massive games coming up that can really push us in the right direction so we’re very excited.

"These are the games we want to play in - big Champions League games, big Premier League games against top clubs so we’re very excited and we’re looking forward to them."

The midfielder assumed penalty-taking responsibilities in the absence of Jorginho, confidently converting to net at St Mary’s for the second season running.

"Tammy Abraham was actually taking the first one but obviously he went off at half-time so it was either me or Timo," Mount revealed.

"The manager said it should be whoever feels confident on the pitch so I just stepped up.

"I missed my last one at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup so I wanted to make it right and I was confident in scoring as well.

"I’ve said before that it does mean a little bit more to me [to score against Southampton] and I scored here last season as well so it’s a nice ground for me to play at.

"But the most important thing is to get the three points and we didn’t manage to do that so it’s obviously a disappointment."
