Mason Mount: Chelsea injury hope with midfielder ‘on the mend’ ahead of Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool

Chelsea remain hopeful Mason Mount will return from injury in time to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Final next Sunday.

The midfielder suffered ankle ligament damage in the Club World Cup Final win over Palmeiras and missed Saturday’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Mount is unlikely to feature agianst Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday but he has not given up hope of facing Liverpool at Wembley.

With a week until the Carabao Cup Final, Cheslea posted a picture of Mount on Twitter with the captain: “Mason on the mend”.

The return of Mount would hand Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel a major boost for the Liverpool game.

The 23-year-old is Chelsea’s third top scorer this season, even though he has been hampered by injuries. He is also their most creative player, having registered eight assists.

Having won the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup, Mount is desperate to try to help Chelsea win another trophy.

Speaking before the Palace game, Tuchel said: "We will push for the league cup final.

“He has injured ligaments in the very first minute of the final unfortunately.

“The Champions League seems to be very, very close and we’ll try hard for the cup final."
