Mason Holgate set to miss Everton's final games after injury confirmed

Mason Holgate looks set to miss Everton's final two games of the season because of his shin injury.

The 23-year-old was forced off after just 16 minutes at Goodison last night having just returned to the starting line-up after two games on the sidelines

Holgate initially sustained the problem in the defeat to Spurs earlier this month and missed the games with Southampton and Wolves.

The centre-half, who has become Everton's first-choice defender in that position under Carlo Ancelotti, was passed fit to play last night against Aston Villa despite having only returned to training the day earlier.

And early in last night's game, Holgate hurt his shin once more and faces two weeks of recovery.

It means that Holgate is expected to miss Monday's game at Sheffield United and the visit of Bournemouth on the final day of the season.

Yerry Mina will be assessed ahead of the trip to Bramall Lane on Monday but Everton had been keen to give the Colombian defender ample time to recover from the muscle strain he picked up against Wolves.

Should Mina be absent for the game with Sheffield United then teenager Jarrad Branthwaite, who replaced Holgate last night, would make his full Premier League debut.
