Mason Greenwood tells Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his preferred Manchester United position

Mason Greenwood sees his long-term future at Manchester United as the club's leading striker.

Teenage forward Greenwood burst into the United first-team last season and, despite a slow start, he is enjoying another fine campaign this term - scoring five goals in his last four domestic appearances.

While the 19-year-old has been given rare opportunities through the middle, competition from Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford has largely seen him deployed on the right-wing by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with his ability to cut-inside on his left-foot particularly valuable.

Though he is happy to play wherever Solskjaer sees fit, Greenwood has his sights set on becoming the club's No.1 striker.

“Long-term I want to be in that No.9 role but if I play on the right or in that No.9 role wherever the manager picks me or tells me to play I’ll go out there and do my best,” he told Stadium Astro.

“I like it in both areas, there’s no grey areas if I’m on the wing or up front they are basically the same for me I’m going out there playing football with a smile on my face.

“I just want to be the man scoring the goals, any young boy from the academy would say the same thing really, it’s just a role everyone wants to be in."

Greenwood also revealed that it is his father that he has to thank for his ability to use both feet.

“It was my Dad really," he added. "He used to take me down to the local parks and the astroturf and he used to say ‘whatever you do one foot, you do on the other foot’

"Ever since then, I’ve not stopped working on and it’s just stuck with me, it’s natural to me now."
