Mason Greenwood set to play for Manchester United U23s vs Stoke City

Manchester United have confirmed that young striker Mason Greenwood will feature for the U23s in their match with Stoke City on Friday night.

It will be Greenwood's first appearance for the reserves this season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called him into the first team after being impressed with his talent.

While largely used as a late substitute, the 18-year-old has managed to make nine appearances for United in all competitions this season and has also scored two goals in his three starts.

He remained on the bench in United's 1-0 Europa League win against Partizan Belgrade on Thursday and as a result has been given the opportunity to get some much needed minutes under his belt for the U23s.

MEN Sport understands that Greenwood will start at Leigh Sports Village and he is still due to travel with the first-team to Carrow Road for United's clash with Norwich City on Sunday.

Fellow academy graduates Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong are also set to play against Stoke in what looks set to be a strong youth side.

However, they will be without James Garner and Brandon Williams who played 82 and the full 90 minutes, respectively, in Belgrade.

United's youngsters have had a strong start to the season and currently sit in second place in the Premier League 2 Division 2, just three points behind leaders West Ham United.

On Friday night they will face a Stoke side who are just three points behind them in third.
