Mason Greenwood 'set for new Man Utd deal' with youngster currently earning just £800-a-week

Young Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood will reportedly be offered a fresh contract by the club after impressing teammates and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during United's pre-season tour.

Greenwood appeared three times in the Premier League towards the end of last season, playing the full 90 minutes in United's final day 2-0 loss to Cardiff , and was included in their pre-season squad which travelled to Australia.

He has featured in each of United's pre-season games so far and scored in the 4-0 win over Leeds and 1-0 victory over Inter Milan.

Solskjaer has admitted Greenwood is in contention to start in United's first game of the new Premier League season against Chelsea , and he looks set to become an important part of the first-team squad.

As a result, according to the Sun United will offer the forward an improved deal with a much larger salary ahead of his 18th birthday on 1 October.

He is currently thought to earn just £800-a-week, a far cry from the hundreds of thousands earned by fellow teammates such as Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford.

However, it is believed he also earns an extra £5,000 for every senior appearance.

Greenwood has spent all of his young career at United, joining their academy at the age of just six.

Since then he has gone on to impress for United's youth team and has also represented England at U15, U17 and U18 level.

With Romelu Lukaku reportedly close to leaving the club for Inter Milan , Greenwood is expected to be granted first-team opportunities next season, with Marcus Rashford the only other out-and-out striker currently on the books.

With fellow youth stars such as Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner also shining during pre-season, Solskjaer is giving a number of academy players an opportunity to impress, and they are likely to all play a part during the next campaign.
