Mason Greenwood's transfer value proves why he's so important for Manchester United

Mason Greenwood is Manchester United’s most valuable player according to footballobservatory.com.

The website listed the United forward fourth on their bi-annual list of the 100 players from Europe’s top five league’s estimated transfer value, placing a £111m price tag on the 20-year-old.

The only players that were more expensive than the United star according to the website were Vinicius Jr (£139m), Phil Foden (£127m) and Erling Haaland (£119m)

However, despite his burgeoning talent and increasing worth, Greenwood is in danger of being lost in the United shuffle.

With the club able to call upon the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani, first team opportunities may be hard to come by in the immediate future.

The fact United currently don’t have a long-term manager in place is also a hindrance for Greenwood, as whoever the club appoints in the summer may not play a system that suits him or may simply prefer other players.

He initially thrived under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but as the former United boss came under increasing pressure he opted to turn to experience instead.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has started Greenwood in three of his five Premier League games in charge but has substituted him on each occasion, the German’s decision to do so during Monday’s defeat to Wolves was met by howls of derision from the Old Trafford faithful.

But the Red Devils simply must make the academy graduate an integral part of their side going forward and his valuation proves why.

United have a long-standing tradition of giving youth their opportunity with their famed class of ‘92 a case in point, and Greenwood is very much their future whilst the likes of Ronaldo and Cavani are for the present.

Since making his debut in 2019 he's clocked up 125 appearances for the club scoring 34 goals and notching 12 assists.

His value to the team and United's progress on the pitch cannot be underestimated, and he simply mustn't be marginalised or under appreciated by the next United boss.
