Mason Greenwood's emergence at Man United could be fantastic news for Chelsea and Frank Lampard

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has sparked an interesting debate that could affect Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have already splashed the cash on two new players ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner officially completed their moves from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively on July 1, 2020 - costing the club a combined transfer fee of £80.9million.

However, there are no signs that the west London outfit's transfer business is slowing down as they continue to be linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz.

Furthermore, a left-back is high on the list of head coach Frank Lampard's priorities and football.london understands Leicester City's Ben Chilwell is a top target - although he won't come cheap.

Another player on Chelsea's radar is Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho.

A return to the Premier League is seemingly on the cards for the ex-Manchester City youngster, but it's Manchester United who appear to have the edge over the Blues in the race for his signature.

But do the Red Devils really need to move for Sancho?

That was a question raised by Carragher after watching Mason Greenwood net in United's 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Thursday night.

"Greenwood wow!," the Sky Sports pundit tweeted. "They way he’s started would that mean United should or shouldn’t go for Sancho?"

It's a question that prompted a big response with some United fans saying Sancho is certainly needed to improve the squad depth, while others would be happy to see Greenwood get more game time next season.

The latter option would certainly suit Chelsea and their attempts to land Sancho as they stand to benefit if Man United pull out of the race because of Greenwood's emergence this season.

With that said, Dortmund are reportedly demanding £90m for the 20-year-old.

In addition, the Mirror claim that Dortmund have set a deadline of August 10 in order to complete the signing of the England international.
