Mason Greenwood pinpoints two areas where he's improved at Manchester United

Mason Greenwood believes his overall game besides goalscoring has improved leaps and bounds this season at Manchester United.

The teenage academy sensation enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 2019/20 campaign, netting an impressive 17 senior goals and establishing himself as a first team regular.

Greenwood also earned himself a call-up into the England squad, but then went through a difficult spell for United in the middle of this season, scoring just once in 26 appearances between December and March.

He's bounced back in fine style, however, scoring eight in his last 12. The 19-year-old is now in with a shot of making Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad for the upcoming European Championships, and is likely to start for United in the Europa League final against Villareal.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his progress, Greenwood pinpointed the defensive side to his game and ability to link play as areas where he's improved.

He said: "I have still got a few years to reach my full level of speed. I am still growing, still filling out. I am only 19.

"I have not really been working specifically on that but it has started to come this season.

"My all-round play, my defensive work. Just being a player, basically. That is coming through now.

"My hold-up play has improved. I don't think I give the ball away as much as I used to do when I was younger and just coming into the team. I know the game a bit more and the pace of the Premier League a bit more. It has all come together."

On his lean spell in front of goal, Greenwood added: "It was obviously going to come. It was a mental challenge but you have to block it all out really. If you play for United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, you have to overcome that. I have pushed that to one side just to concentrate on my football.

"I have overcome it now. I am happy to be back playing my best football. The goals have started flowing."

Greenwood is now targeting his first silverware as a United player, as Solskjaer's squad prepare for their Gdansk showdown with Villareal in the Europa League.

"To win something with United would be amazing," he added.

"I want to do that. We are in a good position to do it. A good finish to the Premier League season and a win in the final would be nice.

"We need a bit of silverware, we have not had any for a few years, so to bring it back home would be a good feeling."
