Mason Greenwood has been nominated for the prestigious European Golden Boy award.
A shortlist of 40 names has been drawn up from the originally-announced longlist of 100 players, which was revealed in June.
The award honours the best young player under the age of 21 for the calendar year and was originally established by Italian newspaper Tuttosport in 2003, with the winner determined by votes from 40 journalists across the continent.
Former winners include Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney.
Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix claimed the award last year.
Greenwood earns his nomination after his breakthrough season last year when the Manchester United attacker netted 17 goals and secured a regular first-team spot.
His form was also enough to earn a recent England debut.
United target Jadon Sancho has also been nominated for the award along with six other Premier League stars.
Two Manchester City players are on the list, with Phil Foden and new signing Ferran Torres both nominated along with Wolves’ Fabio Silva.
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is named alongside Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Liverpool defender Neco Williams also makes the list.
