Mason Greenwood Manchester United absence explained

Mason Greenwood is not in Manchester United's matchday squad for the Europa League clash against Club Brugge because he was not feeling well.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given a boost with Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof both returning to training on Wednesday morning after recovering from injury and illness respectively.

But Greenwood was a surprise absentee as the squad trained before flying to Belgium and the United manager has since confirmed it's down to illness.

"Mason hasn’t travelled, he didn’t feel well. Apart from that, it’s more or less the same squad as Monday," Solskjaer told MUTV.

Greenwood has been in fine form this season already scoring 10 goals following his promotion to first team regular after Romelu Lukaku's departure in the summer.

But his absence means it could be a chance for some more minutes for January loan signing Odion Ighalo.

The Nigerian came off the bench in the last few minutes of United's win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night to make his debut but he could be in line for more action on Thursday evening against Club Brugge.

"He’s glad to have got on the pitch," Solskjaer said about Ighalo's cameo.

"He’s represented us now and it’s just about getting sharper and fitter because he’s been out of season. So he’s trained well and looking forward to this game.”
