Mason Greenwood has apologised for his ill judgement after he and Phil Foden breached coronavirus regulations while on international duty.
The Manchester pair had both been called up by Gareth Southgate for the first time.
Foden made his debut as a starter in England's late win over Iceland in Reykjavik with Greenwood appearing from the bench.
But now the pair have been sent home after they spent time with two local girls before the Three Lions travelled to Denmark.
Southgate called the incident "very serious" and Greenwood has since released a statement through United which said: "“Having now had the chance to reflect on what’s happened, I can only apologise to everyone for the embarrassment I have caused.
“It was irresponsible of me to break the Covid-19 protocols which are in place to protect players, staff and the public.
“In particular, I want to apologise to Gareth Southgate for letting him down, when he had shown great trust in me.
“Playing for England was one of the proudest moments in my life and I only have myself to blame for this huge mistake.
“I promise my family, the fans, Manchester United and England that this is a lesson I will learn from.”
The FA are committed to fully investigating the circumstances surrounding the breach in Reykjavik.
Foden was the first to apologise after he and Greenwood flew home from the Iceland capital.
He said: "I am a young player with a lot to learn, but I am aware of the huge responsibility I have in representing Manchester City and England at this level.
"On this occasion I made a poor decision and my behaviour didn't meet the standards expected of me."
United have also shared a statement with the Manchester Evening News regarding the incident.
They said: " Manchester United are liaising with the Football Association and are disappointed with the actions of Mason Greenwood over this situation."
The teenager, who scored 17 times for the Red Devils this term, has deleted his Twitter account.
