Mason Greenwood a 'nightmare' to play against as Harry Maguire praises 'special' Manchester United forward

Harry Maguire branded Mason Greenwood a "nightmare" to play against after Manchester United moved into the top four despite dropping two points in a disappointing draw against West Ham.

Greenwood scored his 17th goal of the season to level the scoring in a 1-1 draw in what was his 50th appearance for the club, becoming (at 18) the youngest player to reach the landmark for United since Ryan Giggs.

That's not where the milestones end, however: Greenwood's goal was his 10th in the Premier League, becoming the first teenager to score at least 10 in a single season since Romelu Lukaku in 2012/13.

Furthermore, no teenager has ever scored more in a single campaign in all competitions for United, with Wayne Rooney, Brian Kidd and George Best all on 17.

Speaking to United's official website, Maguire said: "It was a great goal from Mason; great feet, great finish."

He added: "When he gets into the box and he can manoeuvre his feet - to either foot - he's a nightmare for defenders, I know from training.

"He's been excellent; he's playing with confidence and he always seems to get on the scoresheet, especially since we've returned from lockdown.

"He's a special talent and he's got a big future at this club."

While individually it was a special night for Greenwood, it was a somewhat disappointing one for the club as a whole.

Though momentarily leapfrogging both Chelsea and Leicester into third place, they missed the opportunity to move three points clear of the Foxes heading into Sunday's crucial season-ender.

"We're disappointed. It was an important game; a very important game not to lose," Maguire said. "But no, we wanted to win the game."

On Sunday's game against Leicester, he added: "If you can't get ready for the game on Sunday you're in the wrong sport.

"It's a huge game. We've got three days to prepare for it... we'll be ready."
