Mason Foster likes what he sees from rookie Cole Holcomb

The Washington Redskins are left searching for answers at inside linebacker in the wake of Reuben Foster’s injury.

And fifth-round rookie Cole Holcomb might just help solve the problem.

Holcomb has looked good in OTAs so far and should have a chance to compete. Even better, he has the attention of a veteran leader such as Mason Foster.

“Cole looks great, picking up my stuff, asking a lot of questions,” Foster said, according to Redskins.com. “So, I’m excited to work with these guys and, you know, be there for them on and off the field.”

It’s not a bad sign a rookie has the attention of the guy he’d be starting next to on the inside of the linebacker unit if he ends up stealing a start spot.

Still, it is only May and the rookie has a long way to go before that happens. He’ll be competing with Shaun Dion Hamilton and others, not to mention the newly signed Jon Bostic, for snaps in the base defense.

But with praise from Foster already, Holcomb is certainly on the right path.
