Masked thieves attack Post Office owner in attempted late night raid

A trio of masked thugs attacked a man before attempting to steal from his shop.

The men targeted the owner of the Best One store in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, Bury, at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

They ambushed him, punched him and dragged him along the ground before demanding cash from the Post Office inside the shop.

Fortunately, the man was left with only minor injuries and the raiders fled without taking very much of value.

The men stole the owner's car, which was later found by police dumped in Whitefield.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed that officers were called to the store.

She said: "At around 9.40pm on Wednesday April 8, 2020, police were called to reports of a robbery on Dumers Lane, Radcliffe.

"Officers attended. An investigation is underway."

Paramedics and two fire engines were also called to the scene and were spotted by neighbours.

The shop reopened as normal this morning (Thursday).

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on 101 or use the Live Chat facility on www.gmp.police.uk.
