Masked Singer Pat Cash jokes he wants to be buried in his Bagpipes costume

Pat Cash says he wants to be buried in his Bagpipes costume from the Masked Singer.

And surely he’s not just full of hot air...

The former tennis player - a self-confessed “frustrated rock star” - chose the costume as a nod to his Scottish roots.

He was correctly identified by Davina McCall before being unmasked on Saturday’s show, and says he would very much like to wear his costume again in the future.

“Is it wrong to say at my own funeral?” he says. “That would sum up my personality which not a lot of people other than those close to me know - don’t take yourself too seriously.”

He says he now wants to be buried in the costume (ITV)

However, the outfit had its drawbacks, thanks to a particularly long pipe nose which prevented him performing with the swagger of his favourite stars.

He continues: “I wanted a microphone stand so I could emulate David Coverdale from Whitesnake, Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin or Freddie Mercury but my nose kept getting in the way so I gave that idea away after a few mishaps.”

Pat, who won Wimbledon in 1987, has been pals with Iron Maiden for 30 years, and reckons the rockers will be startled by his appearance on the show.

“The most shocked will be my family and close friends for sure, especially my rock ‘n’ roll buddies,” he laughs. “They would all have me way down at the bottom of a list of celebrities to do this.”

  • The Masked Singer continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
