A delivery driver was threatened with an iron bar by a masked robber who fled with a cash box.
Armed police were called to The Croft, Stockbridge Village this afternoon following reports that a cash in transit robbery had taken place.
Officers arrived at the scene just before 2pm after reports a delivery driver had been approached by a man carrying an iron bar who then threatened him to hand over the cash box.
Luckily the victim, a 57 year-old man, wasn't injured, however police said the driver has been left "feeling concerned for his own safety".
The suspect made off in a black BMW, which was later recovered near to the stolen cash box close to wasteland near Yewtree Cemetery, Hayden Road.
Merseyside Police said it is unclear at this stage whether money was stolen.
It is not known what store the delivery driver was attending.
It is believed the suspect, who may have been accompanied by others, ran away and escaped over nearby gardens.
He is described as around 5 ft 8in or 5 ft 9 in and wearing a black face covering.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "Officers are continuing to patrol the area searching for the offender (s) as well as carrying out CCTV enquiries and urge anyone with information to come forward."
