Masked motorcycle gang rampage through Edinburgh streets and terrorise locals

A masked motorcycle gang have been caught on camera recklessly driving their bikes around Scotland's capital and terrorising locals.

The balaclava wearing yobs have been spotted running red lights, weaving dangerously through traffic and pulling reckless stunts - and residents say it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Their shocking shenanigans have placed other road users in danger as the group narrowly avoided hitting other vehicles, worried locals claim.

The reign of terror across the city's Southside has sparked fear among residents as the yobs reportedly swore at innocent passersby and tried to instigate fights.

As reported in Edinburgh Live, a concerned local captured the gang on camera as they drove through the city wearing black balaclavas on Tuesday evening.

In the footage four motorcyclists can be seen driving through the street as one pal walks on behind them.

One person who witnessed their anti-social behaviour said: "I heard shouting, went to the window, and they were shouting, flipping off and trying to start fights with people in Nicolson square.

"Was a guy with them who was jogging on foot, just being a general nuisance But I have seen them before running red lights, doing wheelies on the Royal Mile.

"They have been all around Nicolson Street, the Meadows and the Royal Mile, that general stretch is where they are huge nuisances - it’s just a p****** at this point.

"They are just so arrogant and loud, revving their little engines, swearing at anyone, swerving around traffic, trying to start fights with anyone seemingly unprovoked."

This is not the first report of a group of masked bikers wreaking havoc across the capital with several incidents being shared around social media over the last couple of weeks.

Bikers have been spotted in Southside, Tollcross, Drylaw, Lothianburn and several other areas.

One local who encountered the group spotted them at a fuel station.

He said: ""They filled up at Lothian Burn petrol station and then milled around the Meadows area for a while, they were on three dirt bikes and an adventure style bike.

"They just get more and more brazen."

Many residents have noticed the anti-social behaviour across the capital and aired their concerns.

One local explained: "12 of them came roaring up Newington Road on both sides of the road and straight through the red lights at the junction. Several were doing wheelies. It’s just a matter of time until someone gets hurt."

Another added: "They were going along Gyle Broadway towards the bypass as i was walking home , all of them spaced along the road, doing wheelies and driving so dangerously. They are a bunch of f******.

While one resident in the area exclaimed: "The balaclava boy brats again? I'm convinced they're all 17-year-olds with rampant acne, hence the need to cover their faces up. I mean, do they think this makes them look like mean boys or something? Pathetic.

One exclaimed: "They rode up George IV Bridge about 17:35 yesterday, riding at speed through two red lights.

"I also saw them a couple of weeks ago riding the wrong way down Forrest Road, kicking cars and trying to knock over cyclists.

"They have to be stopped."

Superintendent Sam Ainslie said: “We have received a number of reports relating to the anti-social and reckless use of off-road motorcycles across the city.”

“This behaviour will not be tolerated, and working with partners, including Road Policing colleagues, we have co-ordinated plans in place to proactively prevent and address these concerns, including deploying Edinburgh Division’s very own Operation Orbit officers.

“Trained in the use of off- road motorbikes bikes, these officers have and will continue to patrol hot-spot areas to identify offenders, prevent and deter further incidents and provide community reassurance.

“Road safety is one of Edinburgh Division’s top priorities, and notwithstanding the risk these reckless individuals pose to their own safety, their behaviours cause significant risk to pedestrians and other road users, and I wish to reassure the public that offenders will be dealt with robustly.

“To allow us to target our patrols effectively, I would encourage communities to report incidents via 101, and should anyone have information as to the identity of those placing communities at risk, this can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
