Masked Metro thugs brandish a machete before stealing schoolboy's bike

A police investigation is underway after thugs brandished a machete before stealing a schoolboy's bike.

The gang of yobs were wearing masks and also carrying bottles of an unknown fluid when they approached a pair of young lads near Longebenton Metro station.

It is understood the culprits had just exited a train before heading towards the youngsters and making a string of violent threats.

The victims fled the scene but one left an £1,100 electric bike, which the gang stole.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8.35pm on Monday July 13 police were called to Innisfree Sports and Social Club, on Chesters Avenue, Longbenton.

“It was reported that two schoolboys had been threatened by a group of older males outside the premises, with one having then had their electric bike stolen.

“Both victims were uninjured but shaken by the incident. An investigation is ongoing to identify those involved."
