A masked man carrying a Samurai sword was arrested in north London after police were called to reports of a group of youths armed with bricks and sticks.

Scotland Yard said officers were called shortly after midnight today to reports of the group in Hornsey Road, Holloway.

A Met Police spokesman said that as police responded to the group, a man wearing a hockey-style mask, and carrying a large bag, ran away.

Having chased after him, officers discovered the bag contained a Samurai-style sword.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and taken into custody.

Detectives in Islington are investigating.
