Masked knifeman escapes with cash following robbery at Bolton petrol station

An investigation has been launched following a knifepoint raid on a petrol station in Bolton .

Officers were called to Bolton Road in Kearsley just before 6pm on Sunday to reports of an armed robbery.

A masked man is said to have gone into the service station wielding the blade.

He threatened staff before escaping with cash.

Witnesses said the scene was taped off for several hours while investigation work was carried out.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed no arrests had been made and urged anyone with information to come forward.

A force statement said: "Shortly before 6pm on Sunday, police were called to a report of an armed robbery of a service station on Bolton Road, Bolton.

"One man – who was wearing a mask – entered the service station armed with a knife and threatened staff.

"The man then fled with a quantity of cash.

"No-one was injured but employees were left understandably shaken.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
