Masked Dancer UK's Cactus unveiled as Gareth Malone in fourth elimination

The Masked Dancer waved goodbye to its fourth character on Saturday night, as Cactus was unmasked as TV star and choirmaster Gareth Malone.

The big reveal came during the fourth episode of the series, hosted by Joel Dommett, as he was again joined by the judging panel of Oti Mabuse, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Peter Crouch.

Tomato Sauce, Sea Slug, Cactus, Pearly King and Onomatopoeia were the latest costumes to take to the stage and perform another routine.

But unfortunately some of the characters didn't impress, and soon one of them faced the chop, with Gareth revealed to be Cactus.

On why he did the show, he spilled: "I have never danced before other than around my kitchen or in night clubs in my youth and I’ve always really liked it and always felt like it was something I should do, should try and I thought this was a really fun way to do it.

"I really like the show and I thought it would be very unexpected for me to do this. Lots of people have actually tweeted before about whether or not it was me in one of the costumes or The Masked Singer but never on The Masked Dancer."

The latest vote-off follows the third unveiling a week ago, when Prawn Cocktail was unmasked as Strictly star and TV presenter Stacey Dooley.

After Stacey had lifted her mask off, she said: "I had the time of my life. I loved it. I just wanted to pretend to be like a daft, drunk, annoying aunt. I think we nailed it."

On why she chose the shrimp costume - which Peter was not the biggest fan of - Stacey said she wanted something that wasn't "too sexy or girly".

The elimination came after Pig was exposed as Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page in the second episode.

No one guessed Joanna was Pig, leaving her thrilled - especially after some of the panel named male celebrities.

She said: "I had a fantastic time, it's been absolutely amazing. The children don't know or anything so I am very excited because this is their favourite programme."

Meanwhile, the first elimination of the series prior to this saw Astronaut unmasked as Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe.

Astronaut did not prove to be a hit, and was soon unmasked by the panel - and many couldn't believe it when Jesse appeared.

When asked why he decided to take part, Jesse said: “I thought it would be fun because dance is something that really intimidates me so it's a fear that I wanted to face.

"This has been unbelievable, it's one of the most zany things I’ve ever done in my career but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

The Masked Dancer airs on ITV at 6.30pm on Saturdays.
