Residents urged to ramp up home security after masked criminals target Perthshire property

Detectives are urging Perth residents to ramp up home security after a gang of masked criminals behind high-value break-ins targeted a property in Bankfoot.

Police believe the same gang who broke into properties in Dundee’s Clayhills Drive, Fitzgerald Way and Newhall Gardens between Wednesday and Sunday last week also targeted a property in Innewan Gardens in Bankfoot on Thursday, December 9.

Officers say three men wearing masks were spotted in Bankfoot during the latter incident and they are also keen to trace the whereabouts of a navy blue van seen in the village around the same time.

They say a quantity of jewellery was taken during the raid - the value has not been disclosed.

Police are appealing for information to help them trackdown the group as they urge residents to review home security and leave on lights when possible.

Detective Sharon Swankie from Dundee CID said: “These break-ins involved the theft of high value items, including jewellery and cash, and we are investigating if these incidents are linked.

“We are advising people to review their home security measures, to leave lights on where possible and make sure that any alarms or CCTV are in working order.

“In the meantime there will be ongoing focussed patrols while our enquiries continue.”

“We are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to get in touch. Any detail, no matter how small, could help with our investigation.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2691 of December 9 for the theft at Innewan Gardens.

Alternatively a call can be made anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
