Masked carjackers chase Mesut Ozil on moped in new footage after brutal knife attack

This is the terrifying moment Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac attempt to escape from a knife-wielding moped gang in a high-speed chase.

The footballers were travelling in Ozil’s Mercedes SUV in North London yesterday afternoon when they were targeted.

New footage, exclusively obtained by  Mirror.co.uk , shows the dramatic chase moments after brave Kolasinac fought off two thugs in the suspected carjacking.

CCTV shows the gang seconds after they overtook Ozil - perhaps in a bid to force them to stop.

One eyewitness said the masked moped muggers tried to throw roof tiles at his £100,000 G-Wagon.

The moped can be seen at 4.58pm, and moments later Ozil's car passes.

The football stars later pull up outside of Turkish restaurant Likya where they asked staff for help.

Police raced to the scene on Golders Green Road on Thursday evening.

Patrol cars can be seen pulling up at 5.17pm in the top left hand corner of the CCTV shortly followed by another patrol car coming from the opposite direction.

Earlier today that Ozil's mansion is being guarded by minders after the carjacking incident.

Video footage shows brave Kolasinac jumping out and confronting the thugs, eventually scaring them off.

Ozil and Kolasinac escaped unharmed and travelled to a restaurant in Golders Green, where they were spoken to by police officers.

Arsenal spoke to both Ozil and Kolasinac last night and confirmed that they were fine, just shocked.

They are both set to return to Arsenal training as normal, as the Gunners continue their pre-season preparation ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

An  Arsenal  spokesman told Mirror Football: "We have been in contact with both players and they are fine."

A police statement said: "We were called to Platts Lane, NW3, shortly before 5pm to reports of an attempted robbery.

"It was reported that suspects on motorbikes had attempted to rob a man.

"The driver, along with his passenger, managed to get away unharmed and travelled to a restaurant in Golders Green, where they were spoken to by officers.

"There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue."

Simon Collins, 46, was walking his son to a park when he saw the drama unfold.

He said: “They were carrying roof tiles. The Arsenal players were speeding away from them.

“They were chasing them and came up to traffic.

“Ozil's wagon tried to get away and went around the traffic to try to speed away. He had to go on the wrong side of the road. It was all under the speed limit.

“The moped guys dropped the tiles, and had to quickly jump off and pick them up."

He added: “Clearly it was their intention to chuck the tiles at the car window and smash it.

“They were proper SWAT team-like. They were just proper like nasty ninja style - all black, probably had masks, gloves, they didn’t have plates.”
