Masked armed robbers attack security guard at Leeds Lidl before cash box explodes red dye over them

A manhunt has been launched after armed robbers attacked a security guard in the car park of a Leeds Lidl store.

The cash-in-transit robbery happened at 7.59am today, September 25, in Selby Road, Halton in Leeds.

A masked man armed with a baseball bat attacked a security guard carrying a cash box before snatching the box and running to a nearby getaway car driven by an accomplice.

However, the security dye exploded when the robbers opened the box in the car forcing them to leave it behind.

Detective Inspector Michael Herbert, of Leeds District CID, said: “The security guard received minor injuries and was left badly shaken by this attack.

“The car involved and possibly the suspects are likely to be heavily stained from the red dye pack going off at the scene.

“We are carrying out enquiries to identify the suspects and trace the car used and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, particularly anyone with relevant phone or dashcam footage.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101, quoting crime reference 13210488259 or online.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
