Mask-clad trams going through the streets of Sapporo have grabbed the attention of onlookers.
The hope is to encourage passengers to wear masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The idea was conceived by an employee of the Sapporo Transportation Service Promotion Corp., which operates the trams.
The mask is 45 centimeters long and 65 centimeters wide. Only two of the old-type cars are donning one.
Operation with the masks began on Wednesday, and they can be seen around the city for about a month.
