Mask-wearing still 'strongly recommended' at Bolton Market after rules eased

A number of Covid-secure measures will remain in place at Bolton Market and the borough's libraries, after 'Freedom Day'.

The Town Hall has announced that all public-facing council buildings will be subject to such precautions, in order to "protect the essential services we all rely on".

As the country moves to step four of the government's roadmap on Monday (July 19), the choice to wear a mask will shift to the public. However, in buildings such as Bolton Market, libraries and registrars, wearing of masks will be 'strongly recommended' by Bolton Council.

Other measures that will be in place are:

  • Encouraging people to continue with social distancing
  • Keeping windows open, where possible, to maintain good ventilation
  • Protective screens remaining in place
  • Hand sanitising stations still being available
  • QR 'check in' facilities remaining, with everyone encouraged to use them
  • Enhanced cleaning of high contact surfaces and touch points

Bolton Council Leader, Councillor David Greenhalgh, said: “Throughout the pandemic, council staff have delivered the frontline services we all rely on, and for this I am incredibly proud of our staff.

“We look forward to opening up further in the weeks and months ahead, but it is important we do this safely and responsibly in order to protect both staff and the public.

Measures will also remain at Bolton Library (Vince Cole)

“It is important we return to ‘business as usual’ as quickly and safely as we can, but this will look a little different as we work smarter and more digitally. It is about finding the correct balance so no resident feels disenfranchised. The bottom line is that everyone for the time being must keep following safety precautions.

“Everyone in Bolton has worked hard to bring the virus under control and I am sure we will keep up the good works as we enter Step 4 of the roadmap.”
