Set in a cool container community just off the Bethnal Green Road, Masaj is a cute, eco-friendly bodywork studio that offers signature treatments drawing from Thai, Ayurvedic, Stretch and Sports massage techniques, which are specifically designed to combat the stresses of city life.
The studio recently celebrated its first anniversary with the launch of an extra treatment room, a pretty waiting space decorated in a muted pink and shop selling own-brand natural massage oils, rollers and soy wax candles, as well products from other organic skincare brands like Haeckels, By Sarah and Skin & Tonic. Everything comes wrapped in biodegradable brown paper bags and customers also receive a discount for using the refill service.
With just five massage options on the menu, founder Scarlet Crawley has simplified and modernised the traditional massage parlour concept. There's one for "sporty humans," another for pre/post-partum mums, a full-body, relaxation and targeted area deep-tissue massage.
At £70 for 60 minutes, prices are reasonable, too. The perfect option if you don't want to shell out for a spa day but are not keen on the idea of someone coming to your home.
The best bit? It's open until 10pm so it's super easy to fit in a spot of pampering around a hectic schedule.
Prior to your massage you'll be invited to pick from a menu of handcrafted natural oil blends, depending on you're mood – are you after something relaxing, soothing or awakening?
Our masseuse was Adam, who gave a top notch deep tissue massage, releasing tension in areas you didn't know you held it – like your jaw. Afterwards you'll be invited to chill at reception where you'll be offered a juice shot as you prepare to head back into the outside world.
