Marymass: Online festival plans off to a sticky start thanks to email gaffe

Plans to take Irvine's Marymass Festival online for the first time have got off to a start stickier than the greasy pole - thanks to an automated email gaffe.

Irvine Carters Society and Marymass Festival Committee announced last week they want to hold a virtual version of the event this year and asked residents to email in suggestions.

But Marymass fans who offered their ideas were bemused by a baffling automated reply that read: "Sorry this mailbox will not be monitored between Friday 6 September and Monday 23 September. Someone will get back to you as soon as possible after this date."

One confused emailer told us: "Those dates don't even correspond to this year. I don't think it bodes particularly well for a virtual festival if they can't even get the basics right."

Marymass Festival Committee member Dillon Greene said he was aware of a 'a technical error impacting the email address' but said this should now be fixed.

He added: "Our website remains offline for upgrade works. In the meantime we ask anyone looking to get in touch to use Facebook messenger.”

Suggestions for the virtual Marymass can be left on Facebook by visiting: www.facebook.com/marymassfestival
