Maryland-Rutgers football-wrestling doubleheader at Yankee Stadium moved to NJ

The Maryland-Rutgers football-wrestling doubleheader scheduled to be played at Yankee Stadium on Nov. 4 has been moved to Piscataway, N.J., because there wouldn't be enough time to reconfigure the field after a potential World Series appearance by the New York Yankees.

Should the Yankees beat the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series, a potential Game 5 in the World Series would take place in the Bronx on Oct. 29.

"We were looking forward to staging this historic event at Yankee Stadium," Rutgers athletic director Pat Hobbs said in a statement. "With two weeks until the date, it was important for us to finalize details that help ensure our fans and our student-athletes have a one-of-a-kind experience.

"As a result of the Yankees' amazing postseason run, there were operational concerns that called for us to make a decision at this time. It was agreed that moving the game to High Point Solutions Stadium was the best option under the circumstances. We value our continuing partnership with the New York Yankees and will be cheering them on this weekend and hopefully in the World Series."

The Big Ten will announce the start time and television designation for the football game at a later date.

Maryland fans who bought tickets for the football game and wrestling match at Yankee Stadium can call the ticket office in College Park if they are interested in getting a refund.
