Maryland Governor Provides Update On Bridge Collapse Incident

Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore

Following the collapse of a bridge in Maryland, Governor Wes Moore provided insights into the harrowing experience faced by the construction workers on the bridge at the time of the incident. According to Gov. Moore, one worker managed to escape unharmed and recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the collision with a ship.

Reports indicate that there were a total of eight construction workers present on the bridge during the incident. Tragically, six workers remain unaccounted for, while two were successfully rescued. One of the rescued workers required medical attention, while the other was fortunately unharmed.

Gov. Moore emphasized the swift and catastrophic nature of the bridge collapse, noting that the time between the distress call and the actual collapse was mere seconds. The governor described the survival of the worker who witnessed the ship approaching the bridge as nothing short of miraculous, given the speed and intensity of the event.

The worker reportedly mentioned that seeing ships in the vicinity was a common occurrence for the construction crew, as ships passed by regularly. However, the sheer size and speed of the vessel heading towards the bridge highlighted the potential dangers involved. Gov. Moore stressed that even minor adjustments in the ship's course could have made a significant difference between a safe passage and a disastrous outcome.
