Maryland Gov. Wes Moore slammed President Donald Trump after he threatened to send troops to the state, saying he is living in "blissful ignorance."
Speaking to CBS News, Moore invited Trump to visit the state and go on a public safety walk, calling the deployment of National Guard troops to Washington D.C. and other Republican-led states as "not scalable" and "unconstitutional."
Moore went on to say that the mobilization was "deeply disrespectful," with troops being ordered to "do a job that they are not trained for."
Trump, on his end, described Baltimore as "out of control," saying in a social media post that the city would "much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a 'walk.'"
"Wes Moore's record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other "Blue States" are doing. But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the 'troops,' which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime," Trump added.
The president then said he would "proudly 'walk the streets' with the failing, because of Crime, Governor of Maryland. P.S. Baltimore is ranked the 4th WORST CITY IN THE NATION IN CRIME & MURDER."
"Stop talking and get to work, Wes. I'll then see you on the streets!!! Also, I gave Wes Moore a lot of money to fix his demolished bridge. I will now have to rethink that decision???" Trump added, a reference to the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed after being struck by a ship last year. Axios noted that Trump can't unilaterally freeze funding appropriated by Congress, even though he and allies claimed he should be able to do so.
More then replied with a post on X, saying that Trump "will do anything to get out of walking - even if that means spouting off more lies about the progress we're making on public safety in Maryland."
