Maryland floods: Heroic men save woman from car using human chain

Video has emerged showing a group of men form a human chain in order to rescue a woman trapped in her car during flash floods in Maryland.

Out of shot, a man is washed away as he tries to reach the car, leading to four men making a human chain to rescue the woman.

After initial difficulty getting out of the car window, she manages to escape and is rescued.

The dramatic rescue took place in Ellicott City’s Main Street and the footage was filmed by local business owner Sara Arditti.

She wrote on Facebook: “Unbelievable video shot by my husband Dave during the flood as he and several other men rescue a woman from her car floating down Main St right in front of our business, Still Life Gallery at about 8:30pm July 30th.”

“Dave was at the top of the human chain holding the next man's hand and filming with the other. The man who got washed away was incredibly lucky.”

The flash floods have killed two people and damaged dozens of homes and businesses in Ellicott City.
