Maryhill wonder woman takes on daring stunt for charity

Lynne Ross, 54, from Maryhill, has taken a massive leap for charity jumping from a 150ft platform to zip line across the River Clyde, in support a family member who lives with spina bifida.

Lynne was one of more than 170 participants to take on the adrenaline fuelled challenge in aid of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland (SBH Scotland).

The fundraisers collected more than £28,000, of which £400 was raised by Lynne, at the ‘Glide the Clyde’ event, making it one of the most successful in the charity’s history. Donations will be used to help SBH Scotland provide specialised support to children, young people and their families throughout Scotland who are affected by the lifelong conditions.

Lynne was inspired to take on the challenge as her niece’s three-year-old daughter, Ella, was born with spina bifida and lives with the condition.

She said: “Ella is an amazing wee girl and is such an inspiration to me. I’d never done anything like the zipslide before, but I kept thinking about Ella when I was up at the top of the platform, and I was determined to give it my all.

“Ella has regular visits to the hostpial, and I see the great work SBH Scotland do to help her and our family. I wanted to give something back to the charity to say thank you.”

Deborah Roe, fundraising director at SBH Scotland, said: “This was one of our most successful Glide the Clyde events to date, and I can’t thank our supporters enough for once again showing up for SBH Scotland.

“As an organisation with little statutory support, fundraising events like this are vital to the survival of our charity and our ability to deliver life-changing services in Scotland.

“If leaping from a platform suspended 150ft in the air isn’t for you, we have plenty of  other events  planned throughout the year where you can keep your feet firmly planted on the ground.”
